In the heart of our community of donors, students, and volunteers lies the story Stan Zwier, a cherished member of our CPO family for over 23 remarkable years, whose dedication has illuminated the paths of many incarcerated men.

At the age of 100, Stan's life is a profound narrative of commitment, having served the Lord and his community for over six decades. His journey with CPO, particularly within the walls of Cook County Jail, is a testament to his unyielding faith and the transformative power of volunteering.

Stan embarked on this path on March 13, 1999, when he was called upon to serve as a chaplain, a role that involved leading weekly Bible Studies and providing care visits, essentially going from cell to cell talking and praying with inmates. His transition from the classroom to the jailhouse was a leap of faith—embracing the unknown with the belief that his God-given talent for teaching could make a difference, even in the most challenging environments.

Within the confines of Cook County Jail, Stan's presence continues to be a beacon of hope. His service was not just a matter of hours spent; it was a deep, meaningful engagement with the inmates. Through his teachings, including lessons on the life of Christ, Stan not only educated but also touched the hearts of many. One particularly moving anecdote Stan shared involved him painstakingly extracting pages from a cherished book to share the life of Christ with an interested inmate, showcasing his commitment to going above and beyond in his service.

Stan recently came to the office to start the process of having his credentials reinstated so that he can return to ministering in the jails. Through his years at CPO, Stan has taught us invaluable lessons—about using our talents in service to others, about the importance of perseverance and hope, and about the profound impact of sharing our spiritual wealth with those around us, especially those in need of guidance and light.

As we move forward, let us carry Stan's legacy in our hearts—a legacy of deep faith, boundless generosity, and unwavering commitment to service. His story encourages us to find our own paths of service, to shine our light in the darkest corners, and to uphold the values of empathy, compassion, and love that define our CPO family.

Volunteers like Stan have built and sustained CPO through our 30-year history and I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Stan for his inspiring dedication and to each one of you for being an integral part of our journey. Together, we are a force of love, hope, and transformation, united in our mission to touch lives and uplift spirits.
