Before Chicagoland Prison Outreach, Steven Riggs was involved in selling drugs and retail theft. He later was convicted of murder and landed in Cook County Jail. While in Cook County, Steven says " I was fighting hard to get to the Chapel. I went through being moved around the jail and even got into a physical fight trying to get to the chapel." After many obstacles, Steven met Pastor Corey in a chapel service. He says " two things caught my eye about Corey. One, he had been to Cook County before, so he could truly relate and two, he was the youngest chaplain in Cook County". Steven says "a child will lead them and I knew I could learn a new way of living from Pastor Corey."
After encountering CPO, Steven says his life is more fulfilling. "I feel like I am walking within my purpose; I have more joy and more peace, I am more business oriented. My partnership with StreetWise and the information I have learned from Corey has help me to become an entrepreneur. I am doing things I've never done before. I would like to share with CPO supporters and partners to give to the program. There are no programs in the prison that give hope and rehabilitation for felons. CPO can teach new life skills and help felons renter society. Felons need help too."
