Meet Andy Miranda. At just 19 years old, he is a proud graduate of the Introduction to Construction program at CPO. But before he found this path, he wasn’t sure what his future looked like.
When Andy was 16 or 17, he got into an “altercation with the justice system”. He felt that because of mistakes he made while he was young, people might think he had already “screwed up the rest of his life”. Before coming to CPO, Andy describes his attitude as “nonchalant,” meaning he would just coast through his days without a plan.
How CPO Helped Andy: CPO was more than just a class; it was a turning point. He credits the program with helping him “find himself”. Through the program, he gained:
- Structure and organization in his life.
- Real-world carpentry experience.
- Professional certifications.
Today, Andy has completely “flipped his life around”. Because of the skills and confidence he gained, he applied to several unions and was accepted into the carpentry union. He calls this a “life-changing opportunity” because it provides him with good pay, benefits, and resources for his future.
Andy believes CPO is vital for anyone who feels “stuck” or just needs a “little push” of motivation. He knows that sometimes, people just need a little structure and someone to keep them in check to succeed.
To you, our donors, Andy has a simple message: “Your money is going to good uses, going to a good cause”.
Because of your generosity, we can provide the resources young people like Andy need to build a brand new life. Thank you for making these second chances possible.
