The key is to write a resume that highlights your skills and experience, and that shows potential employers that you are a reliable and hardworking individual.
- Start with your new skills. When you’re writing your resume, start with a section that highlights your new skills. Make sure to include the skills you learned through your certification in either carpentry or welding.
- Your resume should be easy to read and understand. Use clear headings and bullet points to organize your information. And be sure to proofread your resume carefully before submitting it. Remember, we went over this in class.
- Your name, address, phone number, and email address should be at the top of your resume, on the right side. This will make it easy for potential employers to contact you.
- Be honest about your criminal record on your resume. You don’t have to go into detail, but you should mention that you have a record and that you are a rehabilitated individual.
- Tailor your resume to the specific position. Highlight the skills and experience that you have that fit the job you’re applying for and explain how you can be a valuable asset to the company. For Example, “Recent graduate of a carpentry (welding) certification program with a passion for building and a strong work ethic. Seeking a position in a company where I can learn and grow while making a positive impact. I am a team player who is always willing to go the extra mile.”
